The Actor-Director and Patient-Therapist Relationships: A Process Comparison

Stage directors are involved in a process similar to psychotherapists. They empathize, stimulate emotional recall, deal with conflict, encourage risk-taking, build confidence, establish a supportive environment, and create a sense of family. This paper presents a comparison of two processes—directing and treating—that rely on the skill of trusted facilitators.
