The Therapist as Muse: Greater Roles for Clinicians in Fostering Innovation
Abstract
Important discoveries on factors that nurture or block creative accomplishment have emerged in recent years from research on clinical, personality, and social factors in creativity. After briefly reviewing these key research findings, this paper discusses some of their important clinical implications, and makes the case—on pragmatic economic as well as therapeutic grounds—for therapists expanding their professional roles to become catalysts for increased personal and social creativity.
