Hermeneutics for Psychotherapists
Abstract
The meaning and development of modern hermeneutics are explained and traced, and current controversies regarding the application of hermeneutics in psychiatry to conceptions of psychopathology, and to the practice of psychotherapy are delineated. In addition to providing basic information on this difficult subject, it is hoped that the psychiatrist will be stimulated to explore and expand the hermeneutic alternatives available for additional understanding of ourselves and our patients.
