The Meanings of Medicating: Pills and Play
Abstract
The author uses Winnicott’s theory involving transitional objects, the therapeutic value of play, and the vital role of danger to elucidate the psychotherapeutic aspects of medication visits. A case vignette illustrates growth of the possibility of play in the course of visits whose overt agenda is “meds only.”
