Transference and Countertransference Interpretations: Harmful or Helpful in Short-Term Dynamic Therapy?
Abstract
Therapists using transference and countertransference interpretations claim that they are efficacious, some even say essential, in achieving successful outcome in short-term dynamic therapy. Limited research, however, suggests careful and cautious usage if these interpretations are to be efficient in alliance building and goal attainment and, more importantly, not cause harm.
