The Use of Metaphor by an Artless First-Time Psychotherapist

The use of metaphor in psychotherapy is examined from the perspective of a fist-time psychotherapist. Metaphorical theory and literature are discussed, and a case is reviewed. It is concluded that a theory-distant approach to learning psychotherapy, i.e., utilizing metaphor, helps the fit-time psychotherapist to become comfortable, confident, and competent.
