Current Prevention Concepts in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry
Abstract
Recent data indicate that ten to eleven percent of all children and adolescents in America need psychiatric treatment. When one adds to the at-risk statistics the number of children living in poverty, the recognition of the role that prevention has in child psychiatry becomes evident. Little attention has been paid, however, to the implementation of prevention in child mental health. This paper discusses conceptual and practical issues with regard to prevention.
