Modified Techniques for Therapy with Inarticulate Adolescents

In attempting psychoanalytic psychotherapy with adolescents who lack a verbal orientation, the essential mode of interaction between patient and therapist is substantially weakened. Certain modifications of therapeutic techniques, needed because of nonorganic language impairment—one psychologic consequence of a cognitively and emotionally disadvantaged life situation—are suggested.
