Alienation and the Family History

A practical method for some patients with symptoms emanating from rootlessness is presented. Three cases using the technique of the extended longitudinal family history are discussed. Theoretical roots based on analytic psychology, psychohistory, interpersonal psychiatry, and sociology as well as the pragmatics of the therapeutic phase are reviewed.
