Analysis of Crises Using a Stress-Motivation-Response Model
Abstract
This paper describes equilibrated interpersonal interactions in terms of stress, motivation, and response. Responses used in such interactions are neutralizing behaviors and conceptualization of reassuring ideas. Thought process disorganization and crisis behaviors occur when these responses do not establish interpersonal equilibrium. Crisis intervention focusing on thought organization and providing alternative behaviors can reestablish interpersonal equilibrium.
